About Bucket
Them: "Hey you! You're the guy, the guy who wears the Bucket Hats... That Bucket Guy!"
Me: I think they are onto something...
A few weeks later, Thee Bucket Man became a brand and thee journey continued.
My name is Chris Mungary and my 30 year life has always been a wildly adventurous ride. It has taken me around the planet dozens of times, played hundreds of shows in some of the most unique locations imaginable, live painted for several festivals including the Santa Cruz Music Festival, held a residency aboard a cruise ship spinning for 3,000 people weekly, and even was the only American to have lived on the island of Bora Bora in decades. Currently I'm living in Honolulu, Oahu and have been furthering the checking off of Thee Bucket List.
This journey began in California where I was born as a true Native American (White Mountain Apache and Paiute) and raised in the Central Valley area near Fresno. When I was 18 months old my parents, Craig and Teri, took me on my very first real adventure where we traveled to walk on the beaches of Oahu, Hawaii amongst the palm trees. They were instantly hooked on travel from that initial dose of paradise and a few years later bought the agency itself to focus entirely on helping society get the most out of their own lives. We explored to the edges of the world and I was completely immersed in all aspects of life. I have now been to 5 of the 7 continents including over 25 different countries, learning and experiencing each cultures unique lifestyles along the journey. Art and Music took a special hold upon me year by year as we saw the planets vast architectures, events and geography. My mind was expanded and there was no turning around. I began immersing myself in global travel by working with them at the agency early in my life helping with sales shows, computer tech work and eventually working my way to a full-time agent which I did for several years. It truly is a passion of mine to help others obtain their own personal Bucket List items.
All of this was accomplished amongst me breaking my back at the age of 13 in a quad (ATV) accident in the middle of the desert. Upon impact the quad landed directly on top of me where the flag mount tore a hole through several muscle groups and the hit itself caused 2 broken vertebrae (L4-L5), 3 broken ribs, broken main right arm, bruised spinal cord, plus my liver and spleen exploded. I almost died and my entire athletic/mobile life was now completely shattered. When it happened, the doctors told me I may never run again. The experience basically hit a reset button on my bodily function and thought process of life itself. This challenged me to learn how to walk again, find an inner balance of the pain within, and ultimately created even more of an artistic influence that would steer my life entirely. My life was still early in development and this catapulted me into a path towards further enlightenment in an instant. I truly was determined to prove the doctors wrong and I would find my way to the tallest mountains and most distant lands I could imagine.
The whole experience forced me to slow me down literally and think more methodically about every breath and move. I was in the hospital for over a month where I was lent my first iPod by a family friend. The music inside ranged from AC/DC to The Beatles, Michael Jackson, Eminem and beyond. It transformed my thoughts of laying in bed and allowed me to live so many different feelings and emotions while laying flat. It was magical and influenced me heavily to follow my love of audio and arts. Wanting to help the planet and myself grow, I've channeled my energy and positive vibrations by acquiring several hospitality and artistic/musical careers in multiple countries while holding technology as a major passion through it all. I truly have become a man of many hats... thus leading to the birth of Thee Bucket Man almost a decade ago as I was coming off stage from a DJ gig.
I began my personal musical and artistic adventures in elementary school where I took up a variety of instruments and art classes due to the curriculum. It started with the recorder we are all given out of requirement and although it is a simple design, basically a bamboo rod with holes, the musical capabilities that this instrument had were amazing. I instantly asked my teacher what's next and I found myself with a clarinet (conveniently as SpongeBob begins to air). Loving this and wanting more, I ventured into saxophone, keyboard and even choir. In middle-school as I was able to choose my own electives, I started expanding into percussion and other artistic mediums while balancing my core classes, sports and life.
As I was getting into my first regional track team, orchestra position, and traveling soccer club during Jr. High, the ATV accident happened while on a family trip in the Southern California desert of the Glamis Sand Dunes. While riding along sand highway I hit a dune at 90 mph, the quad landed on top of me as i was getting up. It smashed me into the ground and left me there unable to wiggle my toes or fingers as I heard the cars fading into the distance. Later in the hospital they cleared me with gallons of saline, removed several shards of fiberglass and spent over 500 stitches patching me back up. I had been in accidents before but I did a doozy this time. This is what literally kick started this a new thought process and rebirthed me like a pheonix. It forced me to calibrate my thoughts as I continued working at my dads agency part time through middle and high schools. When I hit 20, the decision was made to dedicate my life towards art, music and traveling the planet doing it all. I started working at HobbyTown USA working on drones, race directing and taking my artistic talents seriously. Starting by playing a few shows at studios during our local art hops, it expanded into getting booked every weekend for multiple events and being featured at several festivals each year. All of these experiences all culminated into a multi country career and life path. Now I am in my new home of Hawaii and truly chasing these dreams together with each and every one of you. Thank you all for everything and y'all are the True VIB's.
